BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – One day after lightning delayed their season opener, the #4-ranked Ashford University men's soccer stepped on to the field at Liston Stadium for a top-10 showdown against the eighth-ranked Wildcats of Baker University.

Facing off against a team that they eliminated from last year's national tournament, the Saints took care of business with a 3-0 season opening win over the Wildcats.

CLINTON – A regular season conference championship and a run to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) semifinals for the first time in program history would be enough for any soccer program in the nation to hang their hats on for years.

For the Ashford University men's soccer team, that is not the case.

CLINTON – Ashford University men's soccer head coach Richard Markham announced the schedule for the 2014 season on Thursday.

After a 16-4-2 record in 2013 that included the program's first run to the NAIA Men's Soccer National Semifinals and a #4 ranking in the postseason coaches' poll, Markham has put the Saints in preparation to make their third consecutive trip to the national tournament with one of the toughest schedules in program history.

Of the 17 regular season matches, nine will take place against teams that qualified for the 2013 national tournament with eight of those teams finishing the year ranked or receiving votes in the final top-25 coaches' poll.
