KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the first regular season Men's Soccer Top-25 Coaches' Poll on Tuesday afternoon.
After starting the year off ranked fourth in the pre-season poll, the Ashford University men's soccer team slid to #12 in this week's rankings. The Saints are currently 4-1-3 on the year and earned 370 points in the poll.
CLINTON – The #4-ranked Ashford University men's soccer made it two wins in a row on Saturday (Sept. 20) afternoon with a 3-2 victory over #15-ranked Missouri Valley College.
Playing against a team ranked in the pre-season NAIA Top-25 poll for the fifth time in eight games, the Saints got goals from Adam Wood, Bruno Pendola and Javier Ramirez to earn their second straight win. Senior goalkeeper Chris Higgins stopped five Viking shots as Ashford improved to 4-1-3 on the year in a match that their coach called a must-win game.
LAMONI, Iowa – The Ashford University men's soccer team looked to snap a four-game winless streak on Tuesday (Sept. 16) afternoon when they hit the road and headed to Rassmussen Field for a showdown against the Yellow Jackets of Graceland University.
The #4-ranked Saints would buck their recent trend and get back in the win column thanks to a first half goal from freshman Casey Culver and strong goalkeeping from senior Chris Higgins in a 1-0 win over the Yellow Jackets.
CLINTON – The #4-ranked Ashford University men's soccer team returned to their home field at South Campus for a rare mid-week afternoon game on Wednesday (Sept. 10) when they hosted the Saints of Holy Cross College (Ind.).
Ashford jumped on the board early but surrendered the lead with less than two minutes to go. The Saints would have a pair of quality chances in extra time but were unable to find the golden goal, settling for a 1-1 draw.
RIO GRANDE, Ohio – In a meeting of top-10 teams, the #4-ranked Ashford University men's soccer team wrapped up the RedStorm Soccer Classic on Saturday (Sept. 6) night against the weekend's host, #7-ranked Rio Grande University.
In a rematch of last year's NAIA national quarterfinals meeting in which Ashford earned a 5-1 win, the Saints were under pressure all game long from the RedStorm attack. However, Ashford got a second half tally from junior Adam Wood to even up a game that would end in a 1-1 draw.
