SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Ashford University men's and women's golf teams teed it up at Blackthorn Golf Course of Friday and Saturday, Apr. 11-12 for the Pilot Invitational, hosted by Bethel College (Ind.).
For the second consecutive event, a member of the AU men's team sat at the top of the leaderboard at the end of the weekend. Junior Ryan Hilton earned his first career medalist honors, highlighting a pair of third place finishes for the AU men and women.
RIVERSIDE, Iowa – Ashford junior Jonathan LaRue made his return to the lineup for the Ashford University men's golf team in a big way at the Blue Top Ridge Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 5-6.
Not only did the junior help his team to a third place finish with a 590, the Grand Rapids, Mich.-native bested Mount Mercy's Ryan Shrimper in a playoff to collect his first career medalist honors with a two-under 142 (71-71).
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) tabbed Ashford freshman golfer Matt Chiasson as their Male Athlete of Week on Monday morning.
MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Ashford men's and women's golf teams turned in their most impressive outings of the spring on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 28-29, at the Graceland Spring Invitational at Mozingo Lakes Golf Course.
Led by Coal Valley, Ill.-native Courtney Gieseman's third place finish, the Ashford women secured a second place finish with a team score of 698 (347-342). Sitting in fourth place after day one, the Ashford men jumped on day two to finish third overall with a score of 621 (314-307).
ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Ashford University men's golf team hit the links for the first time in 2014 on Saturday, competing alongside the AU women at the University of Illinois-Springfield Invitational at Missouri Bluffs Golf Course.
Led by a pair of top-five finishes from freshmen Matt Chiasson and Sergio Garcia, the men's team opened the season with a strong showing, firing a 300 to earn a fourth place finish, three spots back of the top spot. On the women's side, senior Courtney Gieseman earned a top-ten finish as Ashford finished sixth overall with a team score of 344.
