[Men's Tennis] Saints Season Ends with Loss to Indiana Tech

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The 2013 season came to an end for the Ashford University men's tennis program on Friday, Apr. 26, when the team was ousted from the NAIA Unaffiliated Grouping Tournament, held in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The Saints, entering the event at the tournament's #5-seed, lost to fourth-seeded Indiana Tech, 6-3, to finish the 2013 campaign with a 10-6 record overall in duel competition.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Closing out the regular season, the Ashford University men's tennis team made a short drive south Tuesday afternoon, Apr. 16, to battle the Vikings of Augustana College (Ill.).

All three doubles contests and four of the six singles matchups came down to a tiebreak, but in the end the Vikings pulled out a narrow 5-4 victory at the Lower Campus Courts in Rock Island.

The Saints had a dominant showing, sweeping the Fighting Bees of St. Ambrose University and Vikings of Grand View University by perfect 9-0 tallies.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Ashford University men's tennis team got back to work on Saturday when the squad traveled to take on the Panthers of Davenport University. AU picked up a win in doubles play, but was swept during the singles portion of the event as the Panthers won, 8-1.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Visiting southern South Carolina for its 2013 spring break trip, the Ashford University men's tennis team posted a 2-2 record last week after playing a stretch of four duels in five days.

The Saints opened the trip on Mar. 4 with a 9-0 victory over Misericordia University (Pa.) and matched it to close out the week, blanking Regis College (Mass.) on Friday, Mar. 8. In between the two victories were a pair of 7-2 losses as AU fell to Brevard College (N.C.) (Mar. 5) and Newberry College (S.C.) (Mar. 6).

CLINTON – Returning to action inside the Ashford Community Indoor Tennis Center for the second consecutive weekend, the Ashford University men's tennis team welcomed #16-ranked Graceland University and Judson University to Clinton.

The Saints split the duals, falling to the Yellow Jackets of Graceland on Friday, 8-1 before downing Judson, 7-2, on Saturday afternoon.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - After a week and a half layoff, the Ashford University men's tennis team got back in action Tuesday afternoon, Apr. 3, when the team visited Washington Park to take on the Prairie Stars of the University of Illinois-Springfield.

AU and UIS played a very even duel which ended in a 4-4 tie after the #1-doubles match was suspended.

CLINTON, Iowa - Head Coach Chad Fenwick and the Ashford University men's tennis team announced on Thursday that their duel match against Rockford College, scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 17, has been postponed due to a scheduling conflict.

The contest has been rescheduled for Saturday, Mar. 24 and is still slated to be held at the Ashford Community Indoor Tennis Center in Clinton. The first serve is set for 11 a.m.

DAVENPORT, Iowa - The Ashford men's tennis team hit the road on Saturday and continued their hot start, knocking off St. Ambrose, 7-2.

CLINTON, Iowa - The Ashford men's tennis team will have to wait an additional week to open the spring portion of the 2012 schedule.

Head Coach Chad Fenwick announced on Tuesday that the season opening duel against the Warriors of Midland University, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 4, has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.
