[Women's Golf] Women's Golf Places Three on Scholar-Athlete List

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released its 2013 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete awards for women's golf on Thursday morning. Joining the field of 131 student-athletes from across the nation is a trio of Ashford University competitors.

Senior Megan Wagner and juniors Courtney Gieseman and Haley Knutti landed on the annual award list which was released prior to the third day of competition at the 2013 NAIA Women's Golf National Championships.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – After inclement weather wiped out opening round play, the Ashford women's golf team took to the course on Saturday, Apr. 20, at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Unaffiliated Grouping Tournament, held at Elbel Golf Course.

The two day event was shortened to just 18 holes after heavy rain saturated the course throughout the week.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Friday's first round action at the NAIA Unaffiliated Grouping Tournament, held at Eibel Golf Course in South Bend, Ind., has been canceled due to unplayable course conditions. The round will not be made up.

The Ashford University women's golf team will have 18-holes of golf on Saturday to complete its bid to qualify for the 2013 NAIA Women's Golf Championships. First tee time is slated for 11 a.m.

MARION, Iowa – The Ashford women's golf team headed west over the weekend for the Mt. Mercy Spring Invitational, held at Hunters Ridge Golf Course. After sitting in fifth place following day one, the Saints improved in the standings on day two to finish in fourth with a two-day score of 736 (367-369).

Junior Courtney Gieseman posted her highest finish of the spring, coming in ninth place overall with a score of 175 (89-86). She was joined in the top-20 by freshman Chantel Eicher, who placed 19th with a 181 (91-90).

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Battling through cold and windy conditions, the Ashford women's golf team opened the spring season with a third place finish at the University of Illinois-Springfield Invitational, played on Sat., Mar. 16 at Whitmoor Country Club.

Junior Courtney Gieseman finished in a tie for sixth, shooting an 87 to lead Ashford in the weather-shortened event as the Saints finished 13 strokes behind tournament winner Lewis University.

EAST MOLINE, Ill. - After an opening day in which they faced both tough weather conditions and an equally challenging golf course, the Ashford women's golf team wrapped up play at the Ashford Invitational with more positives to build on in the fall.

Sitting in fourth place after the opening round, the Saints fought low temperatures and high winds to improve 22 shots on day two to finish in second place with a 710 (366-344).

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The fall season continued for the Ashford women's golf team on Thursday, as they visited Davenport, Iowa to take part in the Augustana Fall Classic at Emeis Golf Course. Paced by top-ten finishes from junior Courtney Gieseman and sophomore Katelyn Gille, the Saints finished the one-day event by taking third place after bringing home a team score of 349.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced their 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete team for women's golf earlier this week and an Ashford University student-athlete has landed on their list.

Preston, Iowa junior Megan Wagner was named to the team for the 2012 season. It marks the second consecutive season a member of the AU women's golf team has be honored with the prestigious award after Jordan Davis earned the accolade following last season.

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - Ashford senior Brittany Boon had her season come to an end on Thursday, May 18, as third round play at the 2012 NAIA Women's Golf Championships was held at Link Hills Golf and Country Club.

Boon shot a 15-over par round of 88 to put her at +32 (80-83-88) for the event, missing the cut for the final round of play which is scheduled for Friday.
