[Men's Basketball] Sveinsson Named to Capital One Academic All-America� Team

TOWSON, Md. – Senior forward Vesteinn Sveinsson has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Second Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The College Division men's basketball teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Four Ashford University basketball student-athletes were honored by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) on Monday.

Women's basketball players Kendra Forristall and Jennifer Forge, along with men's representatives Vesteinn Sveinsson and Mitch Jankowski, all received Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete recognition for the 2013 winter season.

CLINTON – Sophomore guard DeAndre Lowery Jr. and senior forward Vesteinn Sveinsson were named First and Second Team All-Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.), respectively, the league announced late Tuesday afternoon.

A total of 20 student-athletes landed on the award list, ten on each team.

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The 2012-13 season came to an end Friday night for the Ashford University men's basketball team.

The fourth-seeded Saints fell victim to a raucous home crowd and fifth-seeded Jamestown College, 54-50, inside the Jamestown Civic Center in an Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Men's Basketball Tournament opening round clash.

CHICAGO, Ill. – Opening the final week of the regular season Wednesday night, the Ashford University men's basketball team visited Attack Athletics in Chicago for a matchup with the Eagles of Robert Morris University. The Saints found themselves down just one at the halftime break, but a huge 26-9 second half run by RMU proved to be the difference as the Eagles downed AU for the second time this month, 74-64.

DAVENPORT, Iowa – For the third time this season, the Ashford University men's basketball team lined up against the Fighting Bees of St. Ambrose University on Saturday afternoon.

CLINTON – The Ashford University men's basketball team opened the month of February at home Friday evening by welcoming the Eagles of Robert Morris University to Clinton for the first of two matchups this month.

Fueled by an 11-0 second half run, the Saints erased a 13-point halftime deficit and brought the Kehl Arena crowd back to life late in the period. However, RMU grabbed back the final lead of the game with 2:12 to play, holding out for a 69-64 victory.

DES MOINES, Iowa – For the second time in three days, the Ashford University men's basketball team suffered a setback.

After losing at UW-Stout on Saturday, the Saints were downed on Monday night inside the Charles S. Johnson Wellness Center by Grand View University, 56-47. Senior forward Vesteinn Sveinsson scored a game-high 18 points for the Saints while East St. Louis, Ill.-native Brandon Weston added ten.

MENOMONIE, Wis. – A cold shooting night cost the Ashford University men's basketball team as it visited Johnson Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Stout. AU shot just 30.2% (13-of-43) from the field as the Blue Devils of UW-Stout downed the visitors, 60-35.

Sophomore guard DeAndre Lowery Jr. led Ashford with 10 points while Vesteinn Sveinsson and Damon Overton each finished with seven.

CLINTON – His story was featured in Sports Illustrated, he has met some of the most respected coaches in college football and was the winner of the 2011 CBS Courage in Sports America's Choice Honor.

But on Saturday, Jan. 19, he was roaming the sideline alongside Head Coach Oliver Drake as the Ashford University men's basketball team defeated bitter rival St. Ambrose University, 71-67 inside Kehl Arena.
