SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - After playing 220 minutes in the last two days that included four overtime periods, the 25th-ranked Ashford University men's soccer team is still in search of its first win of the season after tying Dordt College, 0-0, on Saturday.
The Saints (0-0-2, 0-0-0 MCC) tied Northwestern College on Friday, 1-1, in a fierce struggle and the story was no different against Dordt, also members of the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
Dordt moved 0-1-1 on the season overall, one day after falling victim to Cardinal Stritch University.
Ashford outshot the Defenders 23-13 through the match, including an 8-3 advantage in the overtime frames combined. But the scoring stalled and a number of opportunities on the offensive end were not capitalized.
Sophomore Geraldo Garza of Rockford, Ill., had eight of those shots, credited with five on goal. Garza's shot, the last for the Saints, at the 104:05 mark was saved by Dordt goalkeeper Brian Verwolf.
AU goalkeepers Nick Roman of Belvidere, Ill., and Daniel James of Nottingham, England, combined for five saves.
Dordt was able to get off two shots in the final five minutes of the last overtime, but both shots sailed wide.
The Saints will look to claim their first win, hosting Illinois Institute of Technology on Wednesday, Sept. 1, for a 3 p.m. afternoon affair.
