CLINTON, Iowa - The Ashford University men's tennis program continues to build its core roster for the upcoming season and announced the commitment of junior transfer Nate Lambert of Camanche in recent history.
Lambert, a transfer from Kirkwood Community College, joins Jacob Dunn of Cody, Wyo., and Guatemalan Luis Castillo, officially as members of the team to date.
AU Head Coach Chad Fenwick is hosting open tryouts for the men's and women's squad later this afternoon at the Ashford Indoor Tennis Center from 4-6 p.m.
"I am excited to have Nate join our inaugural group of Ashford tennis players," Fenwick said. "He has the experience I am looking for and more importantly, the passion for the game to be successful."
Lambert will carry junior status into the fall with the Saints and despite taking a two-year hiatus from the game, he has remained active around the sport as an instructor at the Westfield Tennis Club in Cedar Rapids.
While at nearby Camanche High School, Lambert finished fifth at the Iowa state meet and was runner-up in mixed doubles with Chelsea Moore. He was Camanche's No. 1 player during his senior campaign and also played basketball for the Indians.
Lambert, the son of David and Christine Lambert, intends to major in Business Administration while at Ashford.
"I'm very excited for the opportunity to play tennis again," Lambert said. "I'm looking forward to being part of the first year of this program."
