CLINTON, Iowa - The Ashford University baseball program extended what is turning out to be a marquee signing class by inking a pair of talented newcomers in outfielder Tyson Hutchins of Grantsville, Utah, and middle infielder Brandon Haines of Fairfield.
"Brandon is a good strong kid who can add versatility by playing second, short or third," AU Head Coach John Govek said."He's a blue-collar type and carrries a strong work ethic that is going to bring a lot of depth to our middle infield."
"Tyson has a great baseball frame and he has a good bat can play multiple outfield positions," he added. "He can add the dimension of speed to the roster and can also play infield if we call him to. We're excited for both of these guys to join the team. "
Hutchins enjoyed a stellar senior year at Grantsville High School, turning in a first-team all-region performance and garnering second-team all-state honors. He also shined on the football field, collecting first-team all-state accolades among all players in Utah as a wide receiver.
The Saints and Head Coach John Govek have also signed another all-state football performer in this year's upcoming class, ESPN Top 100 tight end Ryan Fraley of Sioux City.
Hutchins, the son of Jeff and Krista Hutchins, was undecided on his major at the time of his signing day release.
Haines was a four-time all-conference performer while at Fairfield High School. He collected first-team all-district honors as a junior and senior, building off second-team recognition as a freshman and sophomore.
Haines garnered first-team all-conference status in his final two seasons with the Trojans.
Haines was also named the Southeast Conference's Most Valuable Player following his senior campaign and was picked among members of the All-Golden Triangle Team.
Haines, the son of Bill and Bettye Haines, will begin working towards a degree in Sports Management when he arrives to campus this fall.
