CLINTON, Iowa - Ashford University women's basketball Head Coach Amy Eagan added a new member to next season's squad earlier this month with the signing of Courtney Olson of Amboy, Ill.
In a well-attended signing ceremony, Olson became the second recruit to commit to the Saints under Eagan, joining Jena Peterson of Woodhull, Ill., as newcomers to her first recruiting class at Ashford.
"We are excited to have Courtney joining our team," said Eagan. "Not only is she a great athlete, but an outstanding student in the classroom. She is a great example of what we are looking for in our student-athletes."
Also an accomplished track and cross country athlete, Olson was named to the Amboy High School Christmas All-Tournament team as a junior on the basketball court. As a senior, Olson was named the Clippers' MVP and named the team's best defensive player after a season in which she was again named to an All-Tournament team, this time at the Oregon Christmas Tournament.
Olson was a five-time All Trac-8 Conference selection in track and cross country, while also placing 12th at the Illinois State meet as a member of the Clippers 4x800-meter relay. Olson also qualified for the state meet during her freshman year in the 1,600-meter run.
This past May, Olson helped the Clippers to a fourth-place finish at the Trac-8 Outdoor Championships, earning three top-10 finishes, highlighted by a runner-up effort in the 4x800-meter relay.
The daughter of Robert and Wendy Olson, Courtney is a prospective Social Science major when she arrives to campus in the fall. She ultimately chose Ashford over Augustana College.
