CLINTON, Iowa - Ashford University baseball Head Coach John Govek was pleased to announce the recent commitment of shortstop Matt Follen of Waunakee, Wis., who recently pledged to join the Saints next fall.
Follen joins a talented group of AU infielders next season, including senior all-conference shortstop Mike Ray of Sycamore, Ill. He becomes the program's fifth commitment and joins a number of newcomer Wisconsin products, including Joe Dashek of Franklin and Tomás Chardón of Middleton.
"Matt has impressive pop from the plate and has a chance to really develop into an all-around contributor for this club," Govek said. "We really like the talent that we've scouted in Wisconsin high schools this year."
The 5-11 Follen led Waunakee High School in home runs his senior year, collecting all-conference accolades in the process. He also served as a team captain and his combined efforts paved way to Waunakee Most Valuable Player honors.
Follen, the son of Heath and Jennifer Follen, will begin his pursuit of a degree in Sports and Recreation Management when he arrives to campus this fall.
