CLINTON, Iowa - The Ashford University baseball team added another prospect for the new academic year, inking Joe Dashek of Franklin, Wis., to a letter of intent in recent history.

Dashek, a versatile infielder, comes to the Saints after a two-year playing career while at Indian Hills Community College in Centerville.

He becomes the fourth signing in AU Head Coach John Govek's 2010 recruiting haul, joining Ellsworth C.C. transfer Rafael Ordaz of Caracas, Venezuela, Tomás Chardón of Middleton, Wis., and Bettendorf's Tommie Garton III.

"We're excited to get Joe on board from a highly-touted junior college program like Indian Hills," Govek said. "His versatility in the infield will be a huge asset to the roster as we stock up talent for the immediate future."

Dashek was a First-Team Academic All-Region selection as a freshman at Indian Hills. While at Franklin High School in Wisconsin, he helped his squad to the state tournament. He had a .420 batting average en route to garnering Rookie of the Year team honors.

As a senior, Dashek propelled Franklin to a sectional berth.

Dashek chose Ashford over interest from MCC schools, Waldorf College and Mt. Mercy College, and will continue his studies in Criminal Justice when he enrolls this fall.
