
DES MOINES, Iowa - With only one week before the Midwest Collegiate Conference Track and Field championships, two Ashford University men's track and field members hit the track over the weekend to compete in the 10-event decathlon.
With a score of 5,469 total points, sophomore Aaron Yerk of Belvidere, Ill., took fourth place overall while senior Caleb Snyder of Winnebago, Ill., finished in seventh place with a score of 4,928.
Yerk and Snyder squared off against nine other members from the conference, competing in the 100-meter dash, long jump, shot put and high jump, on day one before finishing up on Saturday with the 110-meter hudles, discus throw, pole vault and javelin throw.
Yerk scored his highest number of points on day one in the 100-meter dash, (11.76, 699 points) but would finish up the day with the best mark in the field in the high jump after clearing 1.83 meters.
At the end of day one, Yerk stood in fourth place with 3,030 points.
A fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash (53.15, 675 points) would be the highest placing for Snyder on the first day and he sat in seventh place with 2,908 points.
Yerk and Synder took first and third place, respectively, in the second event of day two, the discus throw. With a toss of 34.55 meters, Yerk grabbed 555 points while Snyder totaled 474 points after throwing the discus 30.47 meters.
The duo would place second and third in the next event, the pole vault, to highlight the rest of the second day and finished with seven points towards Ashford's total for next week's championships.
