Senior Jessie Rosenow ended the year hitting over .400, going 2-for-2 in game one against Iowa Wesleyan

CLINTON, Iowa - The Ashford University softball team was limited offensively against Iowa Wesleyan College on Wednesday, falling in a road doubleheader, 9-2 and 2-0, at Mapleleaf Community Complex.

It marked the Saints' final test before entering postseason play this weekend at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament. Brackets for the tournament have not been released as of yet, but the Saints will enter as the probable No. 8 seed in the pod at Oskaloosa where William Penn University will host.

Iowa Wesleyan completed the season sweep over Ashford in the three-game series.

The Saints were scheduled to play Cardinal Stritch University today to close out the regular season, but instead collected a pair of forfeit wins due to unknown circumstances.

Senior Jessie Rosenow of Erie, Ill., closed the year continuing her torrid hitting going over the .400 mark, including a 2-for-2 effort in game one. Sophomore outfielder Ashley Schuerr of Belvidere, Ill., also added a multi-hit game from the eight spot in the lineup.

Ashford manufactured a run in its first trip to the plate, capitalizing on a leadoff single by senior Nichole Salazar of Minooka, Ill. Rosenow poked a two-out single to plate Salazar from left field.

Tigers' starter Ayla Serrano was backed by a game-changing six-run fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Ashley Mysliwiec.

Serrano had three hits at the plate in game one for the Tigers.

IWC starter Mallory Crane went the distance in game two for her first career shutout. She limited the Saints to just five hits. Ashford put the ball in play against Crane, striking out just three times, but the hits didn't translate into runs.

AU junior starter Kendra Roth of Salem, S.D., pitched a pair of strong scoreless innings that included four strikeouts before being relieved by sophomore Nicole Woodard of Carbon Cliff, Ill.

The Saints will open MCC Tournament play on Saturday in one of the conference's three pods of three teams each. The winners of each pod and the highest-ranked regular season team reaining will advance to the decisive double-elimination final four pod being played in Ames on the campus of Iowa State University.
