Freshman Nac Huachai tied for second overall in a 36-player field with a 2-under par 214

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The 2009-10 season officially came to close for the Ashford University men's golf team on Monday, wrapping up competition at the Mt. Mercy College Spring Invitational at Hunters Ridge Golf Course.

Freshman Nac Huachai (71-71-72--214) of Windermere, Fla., finished the chapter of his rookie year with another impressive performance, tying for runner-up honors along with Grand View University's Yousaf Khan.

Huachai fired par or better rounds in both days, shooting back-to-back 71's on Sunday and to open Sunday. He closed out with an even-par 72.

Grand View's Graeme Mallow was four strokes lower than Huachai and Khan, carding a low round of 4-under par 68 in first-round play as he garnered medalist honors. The Vikings placed three individuals in the top-10, spearheading their way to the top team total at 7-over par 871.

Iowa Lakes Community College was second, followed by Kirkwood Community College.

Freshman Lucas Mulholland of Mount Vernon was in the top 10 at the end of the first round on the strength of a 3-over par 75, but couldn't lower his score in the final 36 holes.

Sophomore Colt Ostrum of Mount Carroll also had his best day on Sunday and Justin Fritz of Mount Carroll, finished with his best round of the tournament in the final 18, posting an 83.

The Saints ultimately finished sixth out of six competing teams that included three other Midwest Collegiate Conference counterparts, playing a total of 36 holes in yesterday's final round. Sunday's first round featured 18 holes played and had Ashford also in sixth.
