DUBUQUE, Iowa - Just over 24 hours after running at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, sophomore Laura Minertz of Sterling, Ill., joined the rest of the Ashford University women's track and field team and ran to victory in the 100-meter dash while taking second in the 200-meter dash at the Loras Open this past weekend.

It marked the second time this season that Mintertz has won the 100-meter dash at a meet.

After running the fastest preliminary time of 13.04, Minertz returned for the finals where she edged out Jae Moore of Monmouth College with a winning time of 13.07.

It was Moore who would seek revenge in the 200-meter dash however, as Minertz placed second with a time of 26.81, only .39 seconds away from her second victory of the day.

Freshman Nkemdilim Okwumabua of Rockford, Ill., capped off a great weekend of competition and cruised to victory in the 800-meter run, finishing 12 seconds in front of everyone else with a time of 2:19.93.

Senior Kim Fabry of Oconto Falls, Wis., who also competed at the Loras Open after running at the Drake Relays, took fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 63.05.

Later on the meet, Fabry earned a sixth-place finish in 200-meter dash after crossing the finish line at 27.83.

Freshman Sarah Wenzel of Clinton recorded a mark of 10.19 meters (33'5") on her way to placing third in triple jump. Wenzel also took 12th in the shot put with a toss of 10.03 meters (32'11").

Freshman Ashley Voeltz of Fulton, Ill., paced the women's throwers with two top-10 finishes at meet, placing seventh in the hammer throw and eighth in the shot put. Voeltz used all of her momentum in the hammer throw for a toss of 35.95 meters (121'3") and would go on to throw the shot 11.14 meters (36'6") for eighth place.

Freshman thrower Dawn Caffery of Indianapolis, Ind., finished 14th in the shot put after a launch of 9.74 meters (31'11"). With a throw of 30.98 meters (101'8"), Caffery also took 16th place honors in the hammer throw.

Up next for the Saints is the Midwest Collegiate Conference Multi-Event Championships on April 30 and May 1, while members of the team who don't travel to that meet head back to Dubuque for the University of Dubuque Open.
