Junior Jordan Davis placed third at the MCC Championships, making the all-conference team

ANKENY, Iowa - The Ashford University (350-345--695) women's golf team separated itself from a first-round cluster and ascended the leaderboard on the final day of the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championship on Sunday at Otter Creek Golf Course.

The Saints finished third out of the seven participating league schools, carding a 345 in their last round. Ashford moved past Mt. Mercy College and Clarke College on Sunday, shaving five strokes off from their first-day totals.

After Saturday's round, a slim four strokes was the only difference between four schools jockeying for position from third to sixth. The Saints were the only school in final-round play to improve their cumulative team score.

St. Ambrose University (326-337--663) won another league championship in a rain-saturated tournament, using a 17-stroke margin against runner-up Viterbo University. The Queen Bees' Mackenzie Hein won medalist honors in a playoff against Clarke College's Megan Chitty in one hole.

"I'm really proud of the way the girls came back on Sunday in tough conditions," AU Head Coach Josh Davis praised. "Overall, it was a great season. We made some positive strides and have everybody coming back. With the incoming class adding to it, I'm already getting excited about 2010-11."

Junior Jordan Davis of Delmar just missed out on qualifying for the playoff with Hein and Chitty, only two strokes shy of tying for top honors. She had won last year's MCC individual crown in a playoff against another St. Ambrose individual, Kelly Jansen.

Davis carded a 79 (+8) in her final round, moving out from a tie for fifth after Saturday's round. She was also named to the all-tournament team.

Sophomore Brittany Boon of Bloomington, Ill., etched another top-10 finish to her credit, solidifying her status in a tie for seventh with an 85 on Sunday. She posted an 82 in the less-than-ideal conditions on Saturday.

Freshman Megan Wagner of Preston equaled a career-best round on Saturday with a 90, including a 41 on the back nine, and moved into the top 20 individuals with a 91 on Sunday.

"I feel for Jordan because she wanted to make get a repeat trip to nationals, but she has nothing to hang her head about," Davis said. "The two girls (Hein, Chitty) ahead of her played very well and I know Jordan will come back next season more focused than ever."
