CLINTON, Iowa - The Ashford University women's bowling team added a new member for the inaugural season next fall, signing Camryn Simmons of Fulton, Ill., earlier this week.
Simmons will be an important building block for the immediate future of the Saints' new program. She is the third student-athlete from Fulton High School to join the AU athletics department, joining volleyball newcomers Kim Rogis and Lindsey Renkes.
"We're very excited to sign a student-athlete of Camryn's caliber," AU Head Coach Brian Swanson said. "She brings a wealth of experience on the lanes and she will be the type of individual we need to develop our bowling program."
Coached by Mark Richardson, Simmons participated in club bowling circuits throughout Clinton and was named the league's Bowler of the Year this past season.
With a scoring average of 178, Simmons earned her way to participate in the travel league because she was among the top five averages in the club.
A standout in the classroom as well, Simmons was a member of the 3.0 GPA club all throughout her four years at Fulton High School. Simmons was also a member of the leadership committee during her junior year while also being inducted in the National Honor Society earlier this year.
Simmons, the daughter of Mary and Andy Simmons, is the oldest of three children and enjoys dancing, hanging out with friends and reading.
Simmons chose Ashford over the University of Iowa and plans to major in Mathematics with a minor in Education when she arrives to campus.
