DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Ashford University women's golf team passed its final test before the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championship with flying colors, taking second at the Clarke Spring Invitational on Sunday.

Led by a second-place effort from junior NAIA Championships qualifier Jordan Davis (83) of Delmar, the Saints finished just five strokes away from their third team title of the year, carding a cumulative scorecard total of 350 at the par-71 layout on Thunder Hills Country Club.

Sophomore Brittany Boon of Bloomington, Ill., finished fourth with an 85 while Felicia Scott of Waterloo and Alanna Harris of Bloomington-Normal, Ill., each posted a top-10 performance with a pair of 91's.

Behind medalist honors from Chelsey McCoy (81), Viterbo Univesity claimed top team honors with a 345. Ashford was second followed by host Clarke College (356), a second unit field by Viterbo (397) and St. Ambrose University's (412) junior varsity squad.

"I think we had a real solid team effort on Sunday," AU Head Coach Josh Davis said. "It's real nice to see Felicia (Scott) gaining consistency and confidence while Alanna (Harris) has come on strong while playing some good golf."

Davis had a very uncharacteristic start to her round, starting out going bogey, double-bogey and double-bogey, but she recovered well enough to shoot 39 on the back nine. Boon reportedly had a couple of bad breaks on the back nine, but had the team's low total on the front nine (41) for another top-10 finish.

Harris fired a career-low score for the second straight tournament after carding a 92 at the Augustana Invitational just last week. Scott also finished in the top-10 for the second consecutive tourney, shooting one shot better on the back nine.

Freshman Megan Wagner of Preston carded a consistent 47 on the front and back to finish with a 94. She tied for 14th while Ashley Crawford of Rockford, Ill., was just four strokes back with a 98 to place in 18th.

The Saints travel to Ankeny and Otter Creek Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday for a shot to get an automatic team bid to the NAIA National Championships at the MCC Championship.
