ANKENY, Iowa - With 36 holes in the books, the Ashford University men's golf team wrapped up the first day of competition at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championship at Otter Creek Golf Course.

The Saints carded a two-round team score of 645 (331-314) as a result of some second-round momentum and currently stand in seventh place in the eight-team field. Ashford wraps up the final round later this morning on the par-71 course.

Grand View University leads with a 573 (292-281) and have four individuals in the top-10. GV's Josh Manske leads the tight race for medalist honors with a 4-under par 136 (69-67).

St. Ambrose University (292-289--581) is eight shots behind the pace of the Vikings, followed by Viterbo University and William Penn University.

Freshman Nac Huachai of Windermere, Fla., had the team's best round of the day with a 4-over par 75 after posting an 78 in his first 18 holes. Huachai, coming off a tie for runner-up in AU's last event at the St. Francis Invitational, is in 11th place overall among the 40-player field.

Like Huachai, senior Kyle Mantick of Peoria, Ill., and freshman Lucas Mulholland of Mount Vernon, rebounded from a tough first round and carded 6-over par 77's to close the day. They shaved a combined 14 strokes from their first 18 holes and stand in 29th and 32nd, respectively.

Mt. Carroll, Ill., natives Justin Fritz and Colt Ostrum each recorded a low round of the day with an 85. They are in 36th and 38th heading into the final day, respectively.
