JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - A pair of freshmen wrapped up the NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championships for Ashford University on Saturday, with Heather Ketcham of Byron, Ill., and Spencer Touchie of Hometown, Ill., taking center stage.

"We're excited for all of our student-athletes to get this experience on the national level," AU Head Coach Chris Adams said. "I think this is a glimpse of things to come and our freshmen will enjoy three more trips to nationals, our sophomores two more and our juniors will come here again as seniors."

Only two freshmen finished better in shot put other than Touchie, AU's first qualifier for the national meet. He placed 15th in a field of 25 individuals after hurling a distance of 15.25 meters.

Touchie reached his placing distance on his first attempt, fouled on his next try and recorded an effort of 14.88 meters in his final throw. He owns the school record with a hurl of 15.59 meters.

Ketcham was one of 25 competitors that hit the high jump pits on Saturday. She provisionally qualified back in January at the Sol Butler Classic in Dubuque, clearing 1.62 meters.

With the completion of the national meet, the Saints will look to continue their unprecedented success in a busy outdoor schedule beginning with the Augustana Early Spring Opener on March 20 in Rock Island, Ill.
