MT. PLEASANT, Iowa- The Midwest Collegiate Conference has announced its women's basketball all-league honors for the 2009-10 season, and included in those honors is Ashford University senior Bethany Mahmens of Goose Lake.
Mahmens, a former Northeast High School standout, was named to the Honorable Mention team, an honor she received as a sophomore as well.
"Bethany has been a warrior down on the block in the post position for four years," AU Head Coach Chris Powers said. "She gave it her all and we couldn't be more proud of her for this honor to close her career."
As a senior, Mahmens averaged 7.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game in addition to leading the women's basketball team in field goal percentage, rebounds, blocked shots and minutes played. She was named a team captain during her junior and senior seasons as well.
The accolade is the latest addition to Mahmens' outstanding Ashford resume. This season, Mahmens joined the 1,000 point club and achieved Academic All-MCC status for her studies off the court.
At least one member of the Saints' women's basketball team has been awarded All-MCC honors each of the past three seasons.
Iowa Wesleyan's Jessi Beachey was named the MCC Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.
