CLINTON, Iowa - The Ashford University volleyball team continued a busy week on the recruiting circuit, signing its seventh prospect as left-handed right-side hitter Micah Wedemeier of Tripoli committed.

Wedemeier already shares an underlying affinity (the same first name) with Saints' Head Coach Micah Cewe as she became the third athlete signed this week.

Cewe also signed Fulton High School teammates in defensive specialist Kim Rogis and middle blocker/outside hitter Lindsey Renkes.

"Micah was a huge pickup for our volleyball program," Cewe said. "She has had an outstanding high school career. She is an experienced player and will make immediate contributions for us on the right side. She is a crafty player and has great hands for the block."

Wedemeier was a two-sport standout at Tripoli High School, helping the Panthers reel off a pair of back-to-back Class 1A Iowa state championships.

The powerhouse program at Tripoli finished with a 37-4 record at the end of the fall season and has claimed a staggering eight state titles since 1999. One brief glance around at the banners flanking the gymnasium backs up Tripoli's dominance in recent history.

The 5-10 lefty was an IGCA first-team all-state selection as a senior and collected first-team district accolades. She was also honored as one of the few to participate in the Senior Volleyball All-Star Match, a prestigious event within the state.

In addition to her accomplishments on the volleyball court, Wedemeier was a standout on the Panthers' track and field squad, coached none other than by her mother, Becky. She grabbed fourth and fifth place, respectively, in long jump and high jump at the state meet last season.

Wedemeier also finished fourth in high jump during the indoor season in her junior campaign. She first qualified for state in track as a sophomore, placing 10th in high jump.

Wedemeier, the daughter of Mike and Becky Wedemeier, chose Ashford over Mt. Mercy College, Grand View University, Kirkwood Community College and Coe College. She is planning to major in Elementary Education.
