JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - In another display of balance between all events with two more school records to show, the Ashford University women's track and field team continued to prime for the Midwest Conference Championship meet, competing at the Dr. Jim Green Invitational over the weekend.

The Bruner Fitness Center was a repeat visit for the Saints after competing in the Illinois College Open earlier this year in Jacksonville. Illinois College was also host of the Dr. Jim Green Invitational.

Team scores were not recorded during this event.

"We're continuing to build up performances so we can peak at the conference meet," AU Head Coach Chris Adams said. "There are still things that we can improve on to get to that next step, but we worked on making some more strides this weekend."

Freshman thrower Ashley Voeltz of Fulton, Ill., was runner-up in the shot put, hurling a distance of 11.52m to become the school's new indoor record holder. The effort bested her 11.13m previous-best mark set at the Jack Jennett Invitational at the UNI-Dome.

Voeltz also threw 10.83m in the weight throw competition.

Sophomore sprinter Laura Minertz of Sterling, Ill., grabbed fourth in the 55-meter dash in a field of 25 competitors. She took third in her first heat in the preliminaries and crossed the line in 7.62 seconds in the final run.

Minertz also followed through with an impressive performance in the 200-meter dash, bringing home third in another 20+ field of individuals with a time of 26.70 seconds. She also finished fourth in the 400-meter dash.

Teammate Nkemdilim Okwumabua of Rockford, Ill., earned top honors in the 400-meter dash, breaking Minertz' school record she set earlier this year. Already an NAIA National Championships provisional qualifier, Okwumabua finished just a tick over a minute (1:00.10).

Okwumabua has had a hand in breaking six indoor school records to date this season.

AU's trio of jumpers also did well and turned in another consistent performance from Natalie Solms of Kissimmee, Fla., NAIA qualifier Heather Ketcham of Byron, Ill., and Clinton's Sarah Wenzel.

Ketcham and Solms finished eighth and ninth, respectively in high jump, while Wenzel was fourth in long jump (5.02m). Solms also took third in triple jump with a mark of 10.65m.

The MCC Indoor Championships are next up for the Saints on Saturday in Sterling, Ill.
