MT. PLEASANT, Iowa - The Ashford University women's basketball team had its hands full with arguably the hottest team in the Midwest Collegiate Conference, falling on the road at No. 15 Iowa Wesleyan College on Saturday, 88-64.

The Tigers extended their winning streak to six games and opened up their lead at the top of the MCC standings. AU had snapped a seven-game skid against Viterbo University earlier in the week, but the Saints fell to 2-9 in MCC play.

Senior guard Kim Fabry of Oconto Falls, Wis., led the Saints in scoring for the sixth time this year with 17 points. Senior guard Kelly Fisher of Fremont, Calif., added 10.

"We knew that were going against a pretty tough team in Iowa Wesleyan today," AU Head Coach Chris Powers said. "I was real proud of the way we started, made some good baskets and preserved the lead for a while."

Ashford jumped out of the gates with a 5-0 advantage thanks to back-to-back buckets by senior Jessie Rosenow of Erie, Ill. The Saints led by as many as eight after a jumper by freshman guard Kaela Hunt of Indianapolis, Ind., at the 15:33 mark in the first half.

But the 15th-ranked Tigers roared back with the league's top-scoring offense, taking their first lead on three of Melanie McCreight's game-high 22 points to highlight a 15-6 run with just over six minutes remaining before the break.

AU would grab the lead one more time after a bucket by Fabry, but Iowa Wesleyan rattled off an 11-4 run before the half to open an eight-point edge.

The Saints trailed by double-digits most of the second half and committed a number of turnovers to begin the second period.

IWC led by as many as 22 after three different possessions and converted a pair of free-throw attempts to end with a 24-point win.

The Tigers shot over 66 percent from the floor in the second half.

McCreight led the Tigers with 22 points, MCC Player of the Week Anna Jones had a double-double with 15 points and 10 assists while forward Jessie Beachey added 12.

Ashford continues the regular season on Wednesday, hosting William Penn University at 5:30 p.m. in Kehl Arena.
