
DUBUQUE, Iowa - Seniors Kim Fabry of Oconto Falls, Wis., and Shel'si Weaver of Beloit, Wis., each scored 14 points apiece, but Clarke College managed to salvage a split in the regular-season series against the Ashford University women's basketball team on Monday, winning 76-66.
The Saints' (7-13, 1-8 MCC) losing streak extended to seven games, but their last Midwest Collegiate Conference win came against the Crusaders (6-17, 3-6 MCC) back on Dec. 2, a 19-point triumph.
Clarke won its third straight MCC contest after an 0-6 start in league play.
Clarke guard and reigning MCC Player of the Week Michelle Jamsion led all players with 26 points on 10-of-17 shooting while playing all 40 minutes. She scored just three in the first meeting between the two teams.
Forward Joquetta Rolle recorded a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
Ashford outshot Clarke by nearly seven percent in terms of shooting percentage but committed 14 more turnovers than the Crusaders. Clarke was able to cash AU's miscues into a 32-7 edge in the points off turnovers category.
Clarke ran off a 12-4 to open the game, but Ashford took its first lead at the 10:10 mark in the first half after a bucket by Fabry.
The teams exchanged leads twice, but the Crusaders starting pulling away with four minutes left before the break, going on an 8-0 run.
But the Saints couldn't climb any closer than five in the second half as Rolle scored 13 of her 19 in the final period.
