Kenny Garvey officially joined the Saints' men's and women's bowling coaching staff

CLINTON, Iowa - Ashford University men's and women's bowling Head Coach Brian Swanson has assembled his staff for the program's inaugural season in 2010-11, announcing the addition of Kenny Garvey as a student assistant.

The program will be directed by Swanson, also an assistant coach with the Saints' baseball team, who welcomes Garvey, a former AU pitcher who made six appearances on the mound in the spring of 2008.

"I'm excited to bring on Kenny to the staff as we get our bowling program off the ground and running," Swanson said. "The biggest thing is his knowledge of the game, it's as good as anyone is going to find out there. He has near-perfect technique and his family is rich in bowling history."

Garvey is a well-accomplished bowler on the local scene, coming in as a student assistant with over 15 years of experience on the lanes that includes seven 300 perfect games and an 800 series. His father, Jay, coaches at nearby Camanche High School, and his sister, Taylor, currently bowls for St. Ambrose University.

The Ashford athletics department officially unveiled bowling as an intercollegiate sport in mid-July.
