CLINTON, Iowa - The rising Ashford University women's soccer program was pleased to officially announce the third addition to its recruiting class, inking forward Alyssa Giancana of Eagan, Minn.
Giancana is the third acquisition for AU Head Coach Mick Regan and the Saints, who recently added Bettendorf natives and Pleasant Valley High School products, Trisha Shoemaker and Brittany Paustian.
Regan dipped into the Great Lake State for Giancana, his first player from Minnesota since the 2007 season when defender Rachael Moline of Eden Prairie attended Ashford as a freshman.
"Alyssa will bring more speed to our offense next year," Regan said. "She will cause problems with her tricky play and will look to continue to score goals and rack up the assists as she has done in her high school career."
Giancana helped Eagan High School to a third-place finish at the Minnesota state tournament to close her senior year, the school's second-best placing ever to cap a 20-3-1 season. She racked up 10 goals and six assists while being named to the all-section tournament team.
A converted midfielder, Giancana was a two-time Most Improved Player on her squad and she earned all-conference honors as a sophomore with a six goal, five-assist campaign.
Her junior year was headlined by a sectional semifinal berth at Eagan as she contributed six goals and three assists.
Giancana, the daughter of John and Lisa Giancana, chose Ashford over the University of Minnesota-Rochester, Bemijdi State University and Rockford College. Her major is unknown at this time.
