MADISON, S.D. - Sophomore forward Matthias Burns of Chicago collected his third double-double of the year with 22 points and 10 rebounds to help the Ashford University (10-6, 1-1 MCC) men's basketball pick up a win against Dakota State University (5-5), 80-70, on Sunday.

The Saints came away with a win on their trip north, one day after falling in a tough matchup to No. 6 University of Sioux Falls on Saturday.

Senior guard Byron Emerson of Rockford, Ill., poured in 17 and sophomore forward Klynton Bollinger of Astoria, Ill., came up big in his second career start, contributing a personal-best 10 points.

Senior guard Daniel Joiner of West Chicago, Ill., cut the magic number to 70 to become the school's all-time leading scorer, adding 11 points. He moved to second among players, passing former three-time All-MCC forward Cash Bimm (2004-08), in Saturday's effort against Sioux Falls with a 17-point outing.

"I thought we did some good things in this game and received more steady play from our post players," AU Head Coach Andy Eberhart said. "We'd like to cut down on the number of turnovers, but to be that focused at the free-throw line was encouraging as we head back into conference play this week."

The Saints connected on 24 of 25 their attempts from the charity stripe (Burns made all 11 tries) and shot over 55 percent from the field in the first half. Comparatively, DSU made just four free throws.

Bollinger continued to emerge with his best game of the season and his young career. He made five of nine shots from the floor in 27 minutes of playing time and added a blocked shot.

Bollinger was inserted into the starting lineup for his first career start on Saturday against USF and responded with his previous-best scoring total, netting eight points.

Both teams jockeyed for position in a first half that featured eight ties. Ashford took a six-point leading heading into the break.

The Saints return to Midwest Collegiate Conference action on Tuesday, hosting Iowa Wesleyan College in Kehl Arena for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
