Senior guard Kim Fabry stuffed the stat sheet against Rockford College on Tuesday night

CLINTON, Iowa - Senior guard Kim Fabry of Oconto Falls, Wis., stuffed the stat sheet for the Ashford University (8-6, 1-1 MCC) women's basketball team in a 73-62 non-conference victory against Div. III Rockford College (1-7, 0-2 NAC) on Tuesday.

Fabry had a season-high 21 points, pulled down six rebounds, dished out career-high six assists and recorded four steals in 28 minutes of playing time.

Fresh off of joining the 1,000-career point club last week, senior forward Bethany Mahmens of Goose Lake added 11 points and grabbed a team-high seven boards to help Ashford hold a +11 edge on the glass.

Junior guard Jordan Davis of Delmar added 10 points while senior forward Shel'si Weaver of Beloit and freshman guard Kaela Hunt of Indianapolis contributed nine apiece.

"I thought we came out and played well tonight, especially after a two-game tournament last week," AU Head Coach Chris Powers said. "There was some confusion on defense at times, but our shot selection was good and we were able to find the open man most of the night."

Fabry did it all - from drawing in defenders on double-teams to find an open teammate, to hitting a pair of trifectas from the corner and helping harass the Regents into 17 turnovers on defense. She was also perfect from the line in five tries and missed just two shots from the field (7-of-9).

Fabry drew contact for a three-point opportunity while scooping the ball in for a dramatic left-handed layup and found a cutting Mahmens across the lane for several layups.

The Saints showed a deft shooting touch all game, most notably from downtown in the first half, hitting 6-of-8 attempts on 3's to finish the game 9-of-14 from beyond the arc.

Rockford guard Britney Curry hit a pair of buckets to open the game up and scored the Regents' first eight points.

Curry scored 10 of her team's 24 points in the first half, but the Saints limited the talented guard to just one field goal in the final frame.

After a pair of ties and lead changes midway through the first half, AU went on an 11-0 run and held RC scoreless for a seven-minute span. A jumper by Jessica Moore ended Rockford's scoring drought, but Ashford had slipped out to a comfortable 35-21 lead shortly before halftime.

AU led by 15 after a Fabry three-pointer early in the second half, but Rockford closed the gap to six after three consecutive treys on successive possessions.

RC's Megan Lawler would get the Regents to within five on a free throw with 12 minutes to go, but the Saints staved off a rally and led the rest of the way.

Ashford will travel to Trinity International University on Friday for another non-conference game in Deerfield, Ill. Tip is set for 6 p.m.
