CORALVILLE, Iowa - Ashford University's softball team had nearly twice as many hits as Iowa Wesleyan College, but the Saints couldn't stave off elimination in a season-ending loss at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament, falling 4-1.

Ashford ends its season with 2-43 overall record while Iowa Wesleyan was sent home by Grand View University in the following game.

The Saints generated 11 hits against two Tigers' pitchers, but left nine runners stranded on base and scored their lone run in the second inning.

Junior Jessie Rosenow ripped a two-out single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. She was brought home by freshman Janelle Schroeder in the next at-bat, a two-out RBI single to center field.

The decisive blow came off the bat of Tigers' designated hitter Molly Niedart, who belted a two-run homer in the second inning, signifying the tying and go-ahead runs.

Ashford starter Nikki Woodard gave the Saints a chance with five solid innings, but didn't receive enough run support. Woodard allowed four hits and three runs while junior Alisha Parker worked the sixth inning in relief.

The Saints chased Iowa Wesleyan starter Brooke Iversen for eight hits in just 2 2/3 innings, but were held in check the rest of the way by Ashlee Winner, credited with the win.
