
CLINTON, Iowa - Senior guard Daniel Joiner of West Chicago, Ill., led all scorers for the second straight game to lead the Ashford University (2-1, 0-0 MCC) men's basketball team past Silver Lake College (0-2) on Saturday, 90-73.

scored a game-high 26 points on 9-of-14 shooting, one game removed after
posting 25 the day before against
Joiner was joined in double-figures by sophomore Matthias Burns of Chicago, who had his first double-double of the season with 13 points and 13 rebounds. He had seven on the offensive glass and recorded nine boards by halftime.
Sophomore forward Marvis Kidd of Hazel Crest, Ill., added 12 points and was just two rebounds shy of his own double-double.
Junior guard Mike Relerford of Rockford, Ill., dished out 11 assists and currently leads all players on the NAIA Div. II level in total assists (26).
Silver Lake guard Dwight Weathers scored 18 points to lead the Lakers.
The Saints bounced back from a poor shooting performance (28 percent) and their first loss against of season on Friday night against the Cougars of St. Xavier. AU connected on 50 percent of its shots from the floor this time around.
"It was a nice bounce-back effort considering our unfortunate shooting on Friday," AU Head Coach Andy Eberhart said. "We still have a lot of work to do before we host Judson (University) on Tuesday, but all things considered, there were some positive things to take away from Saturday."
Ashford's swarming defense held the Lakers without a field goal for the first three minutes and opened the first half on a 15-6 run. AU's lead was extended to 15 on a jumper by senior Byron Emerson of Rockford, Ill.
AU held
athletic Silver Lake forward Josiah Elkins to just two
points in 12 minutes after being hampered by early foul trouble. Elkins scored
18 against MCC opponent
Sophomore Rashad Carrington of Milwaukee, Wis., hit a three-pointer with a over a minute remaining in the first half to give the Saints an 18-point advantage.
Carrington and Relerford struggled to shoot a streaky 2-of-23 from the field combined against St. Xavier, but were 6-of-11 together against Silver Lake.
Next up for the Saints is another home matchup in Kehl Arena, this time hosting Judson University tomorrow evening at 7:30 p.m.
