CLINTON, Iowa - The Ashford University (21-17, 4-4 MCC) volleyball team will be hosting Mt. Mercy College to open quarterfinal action in the Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament on Saturday.

It will be a No. 4/5 seeded matchup between the Saints and Mustangs in Kehl Arena with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m.

The match will follow the AU men's basketball game against Silver Lake College scheduled at 3 p.m.

The winner of the quarterfinal match would face the victor in the top half of the bracket between top-seeded St. Ambrose University and No. 8 Waldorf College/No. 9 Clarke College in the semifinals.

Ashford swept Mt. Mercy in its only meeting during the regular season on Senior Night, 3-0, just last week.

Freshman outside hitter Sarah Wenzel of Clinton nailed down a career-high 13 kills while honored seniors Breelyn McMahon of Princeton, Ill., Lisa LaMasse of Hanover Park, Ill., and Rachel Caulkins of Elmwood, Ill., combined for 12 kills against the Mustangs.

Mt. Mercy comes in winners of 11 of its last 15 regular-season matches, including three of its last four in league play to move up to fifth in the MCC standings. Freshman Brittney Thomas had 11 kills in defeat against Ashford.
