FOREST CITY, Iowa - The Ashford University (11-4, 4-3 MCC) women's soccer team pieced together a solid offensive performance and collected its 11th win of the year on the road against Waldorf College (6-10-1, 2-5-1 MCC) on Saturday, 5-2.
The Saints have put together a three-game conference win streak to move into solo fourth in the Midwest Collegiate Conference standings.
AU defeated Iowa Wesleyan College and William Penn University earlier in October to start the win streak in league play.
Freshman goalkeeper Jerika Castillo of Coralville grabbed her first MCC victory in net, playing the full 90 minutes and making five saves.
Junior forward Cassandra Broderick of Bettendorf accounted for Ashford's first two goals, using a quick-strike score within the first six minutes of the first half.
After Waldorf tied it at 1-all, Broderick netted her second goal of the game in the 26th minute. She moved into second on the team in goals by scoring her sixth and seventh in Saturday's game.
The Saints would score the next four goals before Waldorf could muster any kind of a rally.
Broderick then assisted Ashford's third goal, drilled home by sophomore Cate Sarrazin of Iowa City for her sixth score of the fall.
Sarrazin's goal resulted in the game winner, her fourth of the year, and represented goal No. 3 in MCC action.
Freshman center midfielder Chelsea Fisher of Calgary, Alberta, followed Sarrazin with her sixth goal of the season shortly after the opening whistle in the second half. Fisher's score in the 47th minute gave Ashford a 4-1 advantage.
Junior Erika Jakobsen of Rock Island, Ill., added extra insurance to pad Ashford's lead and scored her fourth goal off of a corner kick.
Waldorf added a goal in the 67th minute and scored both of their goals off corner kicks.
The Saints continue their road stretch against the University of Wisconsin-Platteville for a non-conference affair on Tuesday.
