MONMOUTH, Ill. - One tournament removed after she claimed medalist honors, Ashford University women's golf NAIA national qualifier Jordan Davis (85) of Delmar added another top-10 finish to her portfolio at the Monmouth Fighting Scots Invitational on Saturday.
With a score of 320, Maryville University (Mo.) claimed top team honors and also had the medalist, Kayla Eckelkamp (73) who had a five-shot margin over her teammate and runner-up Samantha Keller (78).
"Gibson Woods was tough because it was long and narrow and featured a lot of blind shots," AU Head Coach Josh Davis said. "It was a good challenge for the team and the freshmen made strides because their scores were consistent with what they shot (at the Augustana Invite) -- and this course was more difficult."
Davis tied for 10th with Elmhurst College's Abby Gammage and led the way again for the Saints, who played without sophomore Brittany Boon of Bloomington-Normal, Ill. Boon had recorded a third-place tie in her fall debut.
Davis finished with a 41 on the front nine and was complemented by freshmen Megan Wagner (93) of Preston, Alanna Harris (98) of Bloomington, Ill., and Ashley Crawford (102) of Rockford, Ill.
Wagner equaled her score from her collegiate debut at the Augustana Invitational (T18) and finished tied for 32nd yesterday, a testament of how tough Gibson Woods Golf Course played.
The Saints will enjoy a week of rest before resuming fall action at the Iowa Wesleyan College Invitational at the Muscatine Municipal Golf Course on Friday, Sept. 18.
