MAYVILLE, N.D. – Led by a lethal scoring attack and stifling defensive effort, the #25-ranked Ashford University men's basketball team opened a two-game road trip on Saturday (Dec. 18) with a 78-41 win over the Comets of Mayville State University (N.D.).
Four Saints reached double figures on the night, led by 21 points from junior Anthony Woods for an Ashford team that knocked down 60.4% (29-for-48) of their shots to improve to 15-6 on the year and complete the season sweep of the Comets.
Michael Lindsay had 11 points to lead the Comets who struggled from the floor, connecting on 31.8% (14-for-44) of their shots on the night as they fell to 6-10 on the season.
Ashford controlled the game from the opening tip, jumping out to an early lead and not looking back. The Saints held the hosts to only six field goals while forcing 10 first half turnovers. Meanwhile, the offense knocked down 15 first half field goals to take a 43-15 lead after 20 minutes.
The Saints continued to pour it on in the second half, knocking down 60.9% (14-for-23) of their shots while holding the Comets to only eight field goals as they cruised to the win.
Juniors Tevin Harris and DeAndre Lowery Jr. added 12 points each while Damon Overton chipped in with 11 points for Ashford. The Saints controlled the game on the glass, outrebounding the Comets 36-21. AU forced 15 turnovers on the night while committing only 12.
Ashford looks to finish off the road trip with a win on Sunday when they take on the Jimmies of Jamestown College (N.D.). The Saints are aiming for their second consecutive win over Jamestown, as they downed the Jimmies back on Dec. 7 in Clinton, 75-54.
