CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Ashford University men's soccer team (2-0, 0-0 MCC) scored three goals in the second half and pulled away from Coe College (0-1) in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon, 4-2.

The Saints, coming off a 2-1 season-opening win against Robert Morris University, improved to 2-0 on the year, and won their fourth consecutive game against the Kohawks on Clark Field.

"We didn't start out as well as what we would have liked to in the second half but overall, we played well enough to get another win," AU Head Coach Richard Markham said. "Another great defensive effort helped and it was nice to have four different players in the scoring column."

Senior Soroush Kalhor of Rock Island, Ill., pulled away from former Mount St. Clare sweeper Seyi Famodu with his 33rd career goal at the 54:57 mark in the second half. Kalhor scored his first goal of the year and had tied Famodu in the regular-season opener against Robert Morris.

Newcomers in junior forward Vedran Ilic and freshman midfielder Geraldo Garza found the net in their second games in an Ashford uniform. Both were in the starting lineup against Robert Morris.

Ilic, a transfer from the University of Akron, opened up the scoring just over 14 minutes into the game on a pass by senior defender Eddie Garza of Rockford, Ill. It marked a connection by a pair of former teammates and alumni from Guilford High School.

Garza's younger brother, Geraldo, another Guilford graduate, got into the mix at the 69th minute, scoring his first career goal in unassisted fashion to give Ashford a 3-1 cushion.

Senior midfielder Mike Lentini of Belvidere, Ill., added another unassisted goal, his first of the year, in the closing minutes.

Lentini's former teammate at Belvidere High School -- junior goalkeeper Nick Roman -- picked up his second win in as many tries, tending net for the whole game.

Coe's Reid Galbraith scored both of the Kohawks' goals on penalty kick attempts. The Saints outshot the Kohawks 15-6.

The Saints return to action this weekend on Sunday for their home debut against Cardinal Stritch University at 3 p.m.

The junior varsity squad has a game this Friday on the road at St. Ambrose University set to begin at 5 p.m. in Davenport.
