MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa – Marking the unofficial end of the 2011-12 athletic year, the Midwest Collegiate Conference (MCC) announced its All-Academic Team on Thursday afternoon. Ashford University totaled 136 student-athletes on the list, making up just over 15% of the student-athletes honored by the league.
A total of 890 student-athletes appeared on MCC All-Academic team in 15 sports, including a number of student-athletes participating in and receiving academic honors in multiple sports. Students on the team were nominated by their individual institutions and must have completed at least two consecutive terms at their current institution and have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average.
Ashford was paced by 18 nominations each from men's soccer and women's soccer while baseball notched 15 awards.
The announcement marks a new record for Ashford student-athletes as the 2011-12 total smashed last season's total of 95 members. AU placed 83 on the team following the 2009-10 athletic season.
