CLINTON, Iowa - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its 2012 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-Region squads on Thursday (May 17) and for the first time in school history, Ashford softball has earned nominations.

A total of 134 athletes from 46 NAIA schools earned nominations, including Midwest Region First Team member, freshman Emily Whetstone.  Joining Whetstone is junior Hailey Hall, who followed up a First Team All-Midwest Collegiate Conference nomination with a Second Team All-Region award.

Landing as the designated player on the first team, Whetstone is coming off a successful freshman season in which she batted .341 with 10 home runs and 33 runs driven in. She also scored 24 runs and finished second on the team with a .616 slugging percentage.

The Wapakoneta, Ohio-native tied for both the team lead and program record for home runs in a season in 2012 while being named the MCC Player of the Week on two occasions.

Hall, meanwhile, led the MCC in batting with a .378 average, and was named one of three outfielders to the Midwest Region's second team.  Hall finished tied for third on the team in home runs, belting seven on the season, and second on the team in runs scored and RBI with 62 and 38, respectively.
