Women's Day One Results || Men's Day One Results

RIVERSIDE, Iowa - The Ashford men's and women's golf teams took to the links on Friday afternoon for the opening day of the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships at Blue Top Ridge G.C.

The Saints' women currently sit in the first place overall after an opening day 341, two shots ahead of second place Grand View.

Meanwhile, the Ashford men are in fifth place, two shots back of St. Ambrose and three back of third place Viterbo with a team score of 606 (301-305).

For the women, senior Brittany Boon (40-41) and sophomore Courtney Gieseman (41-40) each find themselves tied for the opening day lead after firing a pair of 81s.

Not far behind the top two for Ashford is junior Megan Wagner, who turned in her best 18-hole effort of the year Friday, finishing in a tie for sixth with an 86 (42-44).  Freshman Katelyn Gille was next for Ashford, coming in a tie for 20th after carding a 93 (42-51). Sophomore Haley Knutti finished a shot back of Gille in a tie for 24th after firing a 94 (46-48).

Senior Felicia Scott rounded out the scoring for Ashford, finishing in a tie for 35th with a 99 (52-47).

The Ashford men were paced by junior Chien Hau Tan, who finished in a tie for ninth with a score of 148 (75-73). Tan was the lone Saint to finish in the top-10.

Coming off of an individual tournament championship last weekend, fellow junior Dan Balgooyen (74-79) sits in a tie for 21st with freshman Jonathan LaRue (75-78), as each shot a 153.  Juniors Ross Milne (T-26th/77-77-154) and Trent Specht (T-29th/81-77-158) completed the team scoring for the Saints.

First place is currently held by Grand View, who compiled a score of 571 and lead by 16 shots over second place Mount Mercy.  The Vikings' Yousaf Kahn and Mike Slavin are tied at the top for individuals, as each fired a 142 on Friday.

Each team will complete the tournament on Saturday.
