INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Capping off a successful 2011-12 season, the Ashford University men's bowling team visited Woodland Bowl in the state capital of Indiana over the weekend, March 30-April 1, for the 2012 NAIA Invitational.
The Saints were consistent throughout the 24 baker-style scoring games which set the seeding for a double-elimination style tournament to decide the champion. AU qualified as the 16-seed after compiling a 24-game pinfall total of 4,333.
From there, the team dropped the first match of tournament play, 3-0 to Midwest Collegiate Conference-foe Clarke University, before rattling off a pair of victories over Southwest Christian University (OK) and St. Catharine College (KY).
However, in round five of the knockout event, the Saints were ousted by another MCC opponent, St. Ambrose in a roll off. The 2-2 mark allowed AU to net a ninth place finish of the 23 teams participating in the event.
Second-seeded Webber International University (FL) earned the team championship after knocking off Calumet College of St. Joseph (IN), 3-0. Midland University (NE) finished third while William Penn University took fourth place.
