GENEVA, Ohio - Day one of the 2012 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships is in the books.
Ashford University competed in two events during the opening day of competition with one team finishing higher than their initial seed, and the other currently three spots ahead of where he qualified for the event.
Roland, Ill.-native Justin Ludwikowski finds himself sitting in 13th place of the 16 qualifiers in the men's heptathlon competition. The senior used a huge second-place effort in the shot put, tossing the shot 12.49 meters (40 feet, 11.75 inches) to finish behind the winner of the heptathlon event, Matt Waters of Concordia (Ore.), by three feet. He entered Thursday's competition as the final qualifier of the event.

On the women's side, the AU 4x400-meter squad took 12th out of the 18 squads competing in the preliminaries of the event Thursday evening. The team qualified for the event with the 15th best time, and defeated Midwest Collegiate Conference-foe William Penn, the 2012 MCC Indoor Champions, in the national race.
The Saints prepare for a busy day on the track Friday as AU student-athletes compete in the men's and women's 3,000-meter race walk, men's 60-meter hurdles, men's 60-meter dash, men's high jump and women's 200-meter dash.
