OSKALOOSA, Iowa - The Ashford women's basketball team concluded their two-game road trip on Saturday, falling to the Lady Statesmen of William Penn, 69-55.
Juniors Courtney Panus and Deana Bledsoe led the Saints with 15 points each, as the Ashford fell for the fourth straight contest. Bledsoe tied for the game-high in rebounds, hauling in nine.
The Lady Statesmen never trailed in the contest, and with the game nodded up at six, Katie Golomski knocked down the first of her eight three-pointers to put William Penn ahead, 9-6.
Trailing 29-20 with 7:41 to go in the first half, the Saints climbed back to within 29-25 after a layup by Panus and a triple from freshman Madison Wagner. But that was as close as the Saints would get, as William Penn took a 35-29 lead into the half.
The Saints would remain within five points with 16 minutes to go in the second half and the score 42-37, but a 7-0 run by the Lady Statesmen over the next 6:09 put the game out of reach.
Golomski led all scores with 26 points, 24 coming from behind the arc. Orielle Thomas and Jessi Kreuser also finished in double-figures for the Lady Statesmen with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Ashford connected on 35.2% (19-for-54) of their shots from the floor, while William Penn knocked down 46.6% (27-for-58) of their attempts.
Ashford held the advantage on the glass, out-rebounding the Lady Statesmen at a 37-35 clip.
With the loss, the Saints fall to 7-13 on the season, 3-6 in MCC play. William Penn improves to 6-14 on the year with a 4-5 mark in conference play.
