
MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa - The Midwest Collegiate Conference men's and women's cross country all-conference honors for the 2011 season were announced on Saturday following the conclusion of the MCC Championships held at the Dubuque Soccer Complex.
Ashford runners earned four awards total, three on the men's side and one on the women's, including a pair of MCC First Team All-Conference accolades.
For the men, senior Doug Powers and sophomore Brian Meyer earned First Team All-MCC Team recognition while West Allis, Wis.-native Alex Gonzales was named to the Honorable Mention squad.
Powers finished sixth on Saturday as Meyer and Gonzales took seventh and tenth, respectively. All three will represent Ashford University in the NAIA National Championships, held in Vancouver, Wash., on Nov. 19.
On the women's side of the event, freshman Emily Paull capped off an outstanding first season for the Saints as she was named to the MCC Honorable Mention team following an 11th place finish on Saturday. The Somonauk, Ill. racer finished with a time of 20:29 over the 5K course.
Seven runners from each gender received First Team All-MCC honors on the basis of finishing in the top seven spots individually in the championship. A total of 11 more women's runners and ten more men received honorable mention all-conference recognition.
St. Ambrose's Kevin Randle won MCC Men's Harrier of the Year while Obsie Birru, of Grand View, earned the MCC Women's Harrier of the Year honor.
