CLINTON, Iowa - Ashford University baseball Head Coach John Govek began assembling his newest recruiting class with the addition of right-handed pitcher Corey Ullmark of Sycamore, Ill. Ullmark represents Govek's first signee for the 2009 season as he inked his letter of intent on Friday with his mother, Connie Harrison, in attendance.

"Corey is a big kid with potential who has a ton of upside and a really good breaking ball," said Govek about his first 2009 commitment.

Govek tapped into Sycamore High School as another link to one of several recruiting pipelines Ashford's Head Coach has staked claim to during his tenure in Clinton.

"I think a pipeline really gives high school players a chance excel on the next level," said Govek. "Once that pipeline is established, you really start to see programs develop and take shape."

Ullmark compiled an 11-4 record on the hill as a senior at Sycamore High School, collecting All-Conference honorable mention accolades. He was a former teammate of current Saints' sophomore outfielder Anthony Misitano.

For one year, Misitano, Ullmark and eventual University of Illinois commit Will Strack combined to form a coveted pitching rotation at Sycamore. Ullmark was a sophomore in his first season as a starter when he played with Misitano.

"He works extremely hard and really knows how to motivate himself," said Misitano. "He's a tall kid who throws hard and will be a great addition to our team."

"I'm really excited about coming to Ashford University because it's a great organization to be a part of with good facilities," added Ullmark. "I can bring a good presence on the mound, locate my pitches well and will be able to get batters out."

Ullmark is the son of Bruce and Connie Harrison and plans to major in business administration.
